Murray 72, Diagonal 53
DIAGONAL — Austin Halls racked up 37 points on 13-of-19 shooting from the floor to lead Murray past a pesky Diagonal team here on Tuesday, 72-53.
Halls also went 8-of-10 from the free throw line, with three rebounds, seven steals and seven assists. Cody Scroggie chipped in 14 points and Pat Kilmer scored 11 with nine rebounds as the only other two Mustangs in double figures.
"We had way too many turnovers tonight," Murray head coach Darin Wookey said. "That really offset our steals that we had in the game. I thought Austin Halls and Cody Scroggie really played well tonight. I was really impressed with Pat Kilmer's play. He was one rebound shy of a double-double. Diagonal is much improved on the year and will surprise some people. Jacob Taylor will become one of the best guards in the conference, if he is not already."
Taylor, a freshman, led a balanced Diagonal scoring attack with 11 points.
Murray improves to 6-0.
Murray 71, Moravia 13
MURRAY — Murray jumped out to an early lead, allowing head coach Darin Wookey to get his bench players plenty of playing time in a 71-13 win over Moravia here on Friday.
Austin Halls led the Mustangs with 19 points and six steals, while adding four assists.
Eddie Otto was the only other Mustang in double figures with 10, to go along with five steals. Cody Scroggie finished with six rebounds and eight assists.
Andrew Rider made his varsity debut for the season, coming back from a broken wrist during football season. Rider scored eight points and finished with four steals for the Mustangs.
"We really tried to get a lot of people involved in the offense tonight," Wookey said. "We jumped out early and then tried several different combinations in the lineup. We mixed our young guys with the older guys tonight and tried to get everyone a lot of playing time."
Interstate 35 56, Wayne 44
CORYDON — Interstate 35 pulled away in the second quarter to defeat Wayne 56-44 here on Dec. 7.
Freshman Jaylan White led a balanced Roadrunner scoring attack with 17 points, while adding eight assists and eight steals. Senior Colton Clarke added 15 points and 10 rebounds, along with four blocks.
Sophomore Zach Goering also recorded a double-double with 13 points and 12 rebounds. Mitch Morris contributed nine points.
Interstate 35 improved to 3-2 with its third consecutive win.
Central Decatur 70, Southeast Warren 36
LIBERTY CENTER — Central Decatur cruised to a 70-36 win over Southeast Warren here on Dec. 7, thanks to a 47-18 advantage in the second and third quarters.
Freshman Peyton Pedersen led the Cardinals with 20 points from the floor, while adding six rebounds. Senior Bryson Durrow chipped in 13 points with six steals and three assists.
Freshman Ethan Hanna added eight points and a team-high seven rebounds and seven assists. Freshman Nick Durell contributed seven points and six rebounds off the bench. Senior Alex Foltz added six points off the bench.
Martensdale-St. Marys 54, Central Decatur 41
MARTENSDALE — A 15-7 second quarter advantage propelled Martensdale-St. Marys to a 54-41 win over Central Decatur here on Tuesday.
Bryson Durrow led the Cardinals with 16 points, while grabbing five rebounds with three steals and two blocks. Trevor Greenland was the only other Cardinal in double figures, scoring 11 points with a team-high seven rebounds off the bench.
Ethan Hanna added eight points and five rebounds with two assists and two steals. Sophomore Noah Simon added four rebounds and three steals for the Cardinals, who fell to 1-5 with the loss.
