Charles Dean McMurray, 79, of Osceola died Nov. 26, 2012, at Clarke County Hospital.
Per his wishes, he has been cremated, and memorial services will be held at a later date. Kale Funeral Home, 301 S. Main St., is in charge of arrangements. Memorials may be directed to HCI Care Services of Osceola in his name.
Charles Dean McMurray, son of Geraldine Morrow and Charles Wesley McMurray, was born Nov. 18, 1933, in Corning, Kan.
Dean received his education in Nebraska and graduated from Honey Creek High School.
Shortly after graduation, Dean served with the United States Air Force during the Korean conflict.
On Aug. 6, 1961, Dean married Noreen Emily Stevicks in Humboldt, Neb.
Dean worked many years as an air traffic controller, first in Saint Joseph, Mo., then at Mitchell Field in Milwaukee, Wis., and last at Waterloo Airport in Iowa, where he retired from.
Dean is survived by his wife Noreen McMurray of Osceola; daughter Lori McMurray of Waukee; stepchildren, David (Dixie) Harshbarger of Evanston, Wyo., and Betty (Joe) Willis of Minneapolis, Minn.; grandchildren, Chet (Sarah) Darst of Truro and Charleen Cruchelow (Jeremy Witte) of Waukee; great-grandchildren, Chase and Trinity Darst and Marree Witte; step-grandchildren, Matthew Dorfman of Portland, Ore., Benjamin Dorfman of Des Moines, Jeremy Dorfman of Spokane, Wash., Jeremy and Josh Oliver, both of Wyoming, and Jennifer Averett of Springville, Utah; brother Delbert (Lorna) McMurray of Adams, Neb.; sister Ann (Bill) Stevicks of Dawson, Neb.; several nieces and nephews; other relatives and many friends.
Dean was preceded in death by his parents.
