MURRAY — The Murray boys basketball team blew open a close game with a 22-9 advantage in the second quarter, rolling to a 64-50 win over Mount Ayr here on Monday.

Mount Ayr held a 19-17 lead after the first quarter, before Murray took control of the game.

“This was a shootout in the first quarter, but we were able to open a lead in the second quarter, outscoring them 22-9,” Murray head coach Darin Wookey said. “Austin Halls was on in the first half, scoring 26 points and getting eight assists, which came mostly in the second half. But, it was our team defense after the first quarter that was the difference in the game.”

Halls led all scorers with 26 points, adding eight assists, three steals and six rebounds. Halls shot 5-of-8 from behind the 3-point arc.

Sam Rockhold was the only other Mustang in double figures, scoring 10 points and adding five rebounds.

Cody Scroggie chipped in nine points and five rebounds, to go with three assists. Eddie Otto contributed six opints and three rebounds.

Matt Johnston scored five points with three rebounds, while Seth Nerness added four points and a team-high eight boards. Pat Kilmer finished with four points and three rebounds.

Jake Still led the Raiders with 16 points and six rebounds, while Braydee Poore and John Triggs each added 12 points.

Murray, 1-0, travels to Lamoni on Nov. 27 before hosting Twin Cedars on Friday.

Moulton-Udell 68, Central Decatur 50

MOULTON — A 21-8 third quarter in favor of Moulton-Udell sunk any chance of a Central Decatur comeback here on Monday, as Moulton-Udell rolled to a 68-50 win over the Cardinals.

Moulton-Udell jumped out to a 23-15 lead through one quarter.

Central Decatur senior Bryson Durrow led the Cardinals with 16 points and added four rebounds.

Freshman Peyton Pedersen added 10 points, while freshman Ethan Hanna scored nine points and added six assists with four rebounds.

Senior Trevor Greenland scored nine points and pulled down seven rebounds, while freshman Nick Durell finished with a team-high nine rebounds.

Central Decatur, 0-1, travels to Clarke on Nov. 27 before hosting Pleasantville on Friday.
