I-35’s McKinney advances to state

Interstate 35 junior Holly McKinney advanced to the State Cross Country Meet by finishing seventh in the Class 2A State Qualifying Meet held Monday at Panorama.

The top 10 individuals and top three teams at each State Qualifying Meet advance to the state meet, held Saturday at Lakeside Municipal Golf Course in Fort Dodge.

The Class 2A girls race begins at 1 p.m.

McKinney will be the lone representative from the area at the state meet. She ran a time of 17:07, which put her :09 ahead of the 10th and final qualifying spot.

Sybbie Sears of North Polk won the meet with a time of 16:26.

Clarke finished ninth in the team standings with 221 points. Central Decatur finished 10th with 287 points. Interstate 35 did not have enough runners to complete a team score.

Collins-Maxwell-Baxter, North Polk and Panorama earned the three qualifying spots for girls teams.

The Central Decatur boys finished ninth in the boys standings at Panorama with 239 points. Interstate 35 finished 14th with 388 points.

North Polk, Fort Dodge St. Edmond and South Central Calhoun took the three qualifying spots for the boys teams.

The Clarke boys competed in the Class 3A State Qualifying Meet at Pella, where they finished 11th with 312 points.

Pella, Grinnell and Knoxville took the three qualifying spots in the boys competition.
