Nota Woods Dutton Des Moines

Nota Evelyn Woods Dutton, daughter of Bert Elias Woods and Viola Mae Haltom Woods, was born February 8, 1917 near Woodburn, Iowa in Clarke County. She passed away Friday, October 12, 2012 at Ramsey Village in Des Moines, Iowa at the age of 95 years.

Her first few years of school were spent in Osceola; when the family moved to the farm, she attended school at Osceola #5 where she graduated from Eighth Grade. She went on to Osceola High School where she graduated with a Normal Training Teaching Certificate. While in High School, she participated in the Music Program - Glee Club, Mixed Chorus, Sextet and Mixed Chorus.

Nota taught in Rural Schools for a few years, one of which was the Home school that she attended as a child. During World War II, she worked as a Machine Operator in the 50 Caliber building at the Ankeny Ordnance Plant and Fort Mason Army Post Exchange in San Francisco as Sales and Kardex Operator. After the war, she returned to Des Moines to work at the Credit Bureau of Des Moines, American Legion Auxiliary (the assigned child desk), JC Penney Company as Personnel Manager, City Health Department as Deputy Registrar and Office Assistant and Statistician in Vital Statistics. Her last employment was at the State Health Department of Vital Statistics (Birth   Death Records).
