McCann, Selsor lead Clarke cross country

Kylar McCann and Chasen Selsor paced the Clarke cross country teams at both the Johnston Invite on Sept. 6 and the Ballard Huxley Invitational on Sept. 10.

McCann placed fifth in Class A at the Johnston Invite, running 17:07. Elly Watkins and Mayella Vega placed 39th and 40th respectively for the Lady Indians, in 21:05 and 21:09.

Tracy Morgan and Samaria Parada placed 52nd and 53rd in 23:08 and 24:17.

The Lady Indians placed eighth as a team.

On the boys side, Selsor led the way, finishing 24th in 19:37. Christian Andrade placed 40th and Jake Manternach 41st in 20:39 and 20:41.

Corbin Simmons placed 62nd in 21:47, while Mason Simmons rounded out the team scoring by placing 73rd in 22:15.

Nick Johnston finished 94 in 23:57 and Ali Aly placed 100th in 24:36. Geo Smith placed 49th in the JV division.

“This is a competitive meet that hosts top-notch runners from different schools that with which we have competed,” head coach Kaylene McCann said. “I heard again and again that it’s a long course, but it was really fast and fun. This was our second meet this week, and we could sense a fatigue factor with the heat.

“Runners continued to meet their goals, and perhaps just as important, learned some life lessons to go along with their running. We are still early season, and they are seeing the importance of the challenges along the way.”

McCann once again led the girls team at the Ballard Huxley Invitational, placing eighth with a time of 16:54 over the 4K course.

Tiffany McKnight finished 39th in 19:08 and Vega came in 59th in 21:12. Watkins was 62nd at 21:40, and Morgan rounded out the team scoring by placing 66th in 22:01.

Parada finished 67th in 22:02, as the team finished ninth out of 10 teams with 234 points.

Selsor ran in the top spot for the boys team again, as well, finishing in 29th place with a time of 19:53.

Mason Simmons came in next for Clarke, finishing 41st in 20:17. Manternach was 44th in 20:34.

Andrade finished 45th in 20:34, and Corbin Simmons finished out the team scoring in 56th place, running 21:53. Jared Jamison finished in 60th place with a time of 22:24.

Johnston placed 185th in the JV division, running 23:22, while Smith was 291st in 27:36.
