Clarke volleyball falls to E-B, WCV

Clarke volleyball dropped two matches in the past week, falling to Class 2A No. 14-ranked Eddyville-Blakesburg 3-0 on Sept. 11, and losing to West Central Valley 3-1 on Sept. 13.

In the match against Eddyville-Blakesburg, senior Ashley Gibbs led the Lady Indians with four kills, while freshman Baylie Balcaen and junior Elysha Eddy each added two. Juniors Delaney May and Kenzi Otto each had one kill.

Junior Kennedy Crees led the team with 16 digs, while Gibbs added 12. Allyssa May finished with five digs and Otto added two. Otto also finished with seven assists.

Allyssa May served 10-of-12 in the match with one ace. Delaney May served 7-7, Otto served 5-5, Crees finished 4-4, freshman Maddi Heath served 4-5 and Gibbs finished 3-5.

The Lady Indians played a competitive match with West Central Valley on Sept. 13, but fell 3-1.

Gibbs led the way in kills once again, this time collecting 17 in the match. Balcaen finished with eight kills, while senior Brandi Newberry added six. Delaney May had three kills and Otto finished with one.

Otto had a strong all-around match, finishing with 23 assists and eight digs, while also serving 19-of-21 with six aces.

Heath and Delaney May tied for the team lead with 14 digs, while Allyssa May and Newberry each finished with 10 digs. Gibbs added seven.

Heath served 21-25 with four aces, while Allyssa May finished 22-24 with two aces. Newberry served 12-13 with three aces, while Delaney May served 10-10. Gibbs finished 6-10.

Clarke is back in action on Saturday, with the varsity team playing in the Nevada tournament, beginning at 8:30 a.m.
