OSCEOLA — Central Decatur won the first two sets against Clarke here on Aug. 30, but fell 3-2.

Hallie Linhart led the Cardinals with 16 kills and 23 digs, while also serving 12-14 with two aces. Kassy Simmons collected seven kills with 13 digs and serving 21-23 with four aces.

Jeals Elsberry and Brittany Binning collected 22 and 17 assists respectively. Binning went 22-24 with three aces.

Clarke received a strong serving performance out of senior Ashley Gibbs, who at one point in the first match served the Lady Indians back from a 12-6 deficit to a 13-12 lead, including three straight aces and five total aces out of the seven points.

“Our match against Clarke was one that we could not be disappointed with,” Central Decatur head coach Joni Readout said. “We played the best we have played all season. Our defense was strong and our serving was where we want it to be. We are excited to play Clarke again at the Wayne tournament, and are constantly working to be a better all-around team.”

Clarke improved to 2-6 overall, while Central Decatur falls to 1-5 with the loss.

Winterset quad

WINTERSET — Interstate 35 came away with a 2-1 record at the Winterset quadrangle on Aug. 28.

The Roadrunners defeated Clarke 2-0, Lenox 2-1 and fell to Winterset 2-0.

“We actually started out pretty well,” head coach Tim McKinney said. “We have, in the past, come out of that with only one win, but we were able to come out of that with more wins than losses, so we felt good about that.”

Junior Haley Bean collected six aces on 15-of-15 serving against Clarke. Senior Rachael Wiggins led the team with six kills.

Junior Abby Boyer had a big match against Lenox, going 14-16 serving with four aces and nine kills, to go along with 11 assists. Wiggins added three aces with four kills. Also collecting four kills in the match were Jenna Sandquist and Jordan Williamson.

Sandquist served 9-10 with three aces against Winterset, while also collecting three kills. Senior Ellen Lupkes also finished with three kills.
