Tressle fire stops train traffic

THAYER — A fire on a Burlington Northern Santa Fe railroad tressle Thursday night has stopped train travel.

According to a Creston fire report, a fire started on a tressle in section 14 of Hope Township, which is east of Thayer, approximately 7:20 p.m. Thursday. Creston Fire Department was called for mutual aid 8:48 p.m. Thursday. Murray, Osceola and Afton fire departments were also at the scene.

The cause of the fire is unknown. Firefighters were at the scene for four and a-half hours. No injuries were reported.
