Response to ‘Country not
founded on Christianity’

As I read this article I was amazed at the lack of documentation that verifies any of the facts. Without getting too lengthy I would like to suggest that a book by Clinton Rossiter, a professor at Cornell University, “Seed Time of the Republic,” states that the six most influential men in forming the Constitution were: Thomas Jefferson, Ben Franklin, Rev. Charles Chauncey, Rev. George Whitefield, Rev. Jonathan Mahew and Rev. Samuel Cooper.

Alice Baldwin of Duke University, in her book “The New England Clergy and the American Revolution,” indicates that all 27 grievances of the Declaration of Independence were based on Christian principles that were preached in 1763, even before the American Revolution.

The British government said, “The Black Regiment, (a reference to a preacher’s garb of that day), were the ones responsible for the Revolution.” Of the 56 signers of the Declaration of Independence, 29 of them had seminary or Bible school degrees. When the Constitution was ratified the church was the majority of the places the vote for ratification occurred.

A good website for obtaining additional information is wallbuilders.com.

One of the two signers of the Constitution was a preacher, Rev. Gustav Mahew. It is true that all of us have freedom of speech but we should base it on facts that are able to be verified.

Gov. Terry Branstad released a $25 million education reform package that calls for more rigorous testing of students, higher standards for the state's teaching corps and includes a $10 million statewide literacy initiative. How do you feel about the cost of this plan?
Right now, the state cannot afford to spend $25 million on education reform.
It's $25 million well spent.
I don't care.
