Plain Jane is becoming foxy.
The former Osceola bar has a different name, owner and atmosphere. Foxys, 108 East Jefferson Street, at the previous Plain Jaine's Lounge location, will open March 15 after sitting empty for over four months.
Osceola resident Brian Huss owns the business, while his partner Roxanne Young will be in charge of the day-to-day operations of the full service bar.
Young and Huss told Osceola council members they want the bar to be a fun, but safe place for Osceola residents to hang out.
"We want it to be a low-key bar," Huss said. "And we're going to keep it that way."
Council member approved the bar's 12-month Class C liquor license March 2.
Young described the bar's decor as being "mellow, with a little spice."
"It'll be an upbeat atmosphere," she said. "We wanted something different than what we already have in town. We wanted people to see that it's a fun, relaxing and comfortable place where they can have a good time."
The newly-painted walls in "adrenaline orange" are enough to get patrons' blood pumping. Huss and Young said this color adds the spice and has an uplifting effect on patrons' moods.
Also adorning the walls will be Harley Davidson posters and other memorabilia.
Foxys will be open Monday through Saturday from 2 p.m. until 2 a.m.
Young said her education in business management has prepared her for this experience, but still she is a little nervous for opening day.
"I'm scared to death," she said. "I've ran a restaurant before, so I've done a lot of ordering and all of that, but the technicalities are overwhelming. I have to make sure all the I's are dotted and T's crossed. I need a book just to keep track of everything."
But once the initial shock wears off, Young said she thinks the business will thrive.
Huss and Young said they aren't too worried about the economy or the smoking ban that have slowed business down for some bars across Iowa.
"I'm a smoker and I don't see it as being a major problem," she said.
Later she added, "We're in for the long haul."
Huss said the community's response to another bar opening in town has been overwhelming.
"If everyone shows up who have said they will, we'll have a line out there," he said.
A grand opening with drawings and specials is planned for March 27.
