Truro Area News
The City Clerk and Deputy City Clerk had a bit of spring brought into their office on Feb. 18. Tammy Brown, who is a very thoughtful person, brought in a basket of beautiful and colorful flowers for each of the clerk’s desks. It may look like winter outside with all the snow but looks like spring in City Hall. Thank you, Tammy.
Also the City Clerk, Heidi Burhans, has been busy in City Hall with not only the usual reports, etc. but she has been giving the office a face life by painting the walls a new color. Really looks nice and cheery.
Ancel Kennedy took a week off from City work this week and while he was gone, Greg Palmer filled in for him. The City Clerk and the Deputy City Clerk kept him busy that week and were really glad to have his assistance while Ancel was gone.
Would it surprise anyone if I said on Friday we received four inches of new snow? Probably not. This has been some winter as far as snow fall is concerned and I understand we have around 64 inches of snow that has fallen on Iowa this winter and the record is 72 inches so the weathermen are hoping we break that record. We have more snow predicted for this Sunday into Monday and at first quite a bit of snow was predicted but it moved farther south and east so we didn’t get hit. We had snow flurries and the kids had to go to school. I understand Iowa ranks fifth in the states receiving the most snow. If it had snowed a lot over the weekend and we received what the weathermen were predicting, we might have moved up to third place. Thankfully that didn’t happen.
I just learned that Wyatt Lee Chittenden was born on Feb. 22. He is the newborn son of Jeff & Traci Chittenden. Wyatt’s grandparents are Art & Sandra (Porter) Chittenden of Urbandale who are formerly from the Truro, St. Charles & New Virginia area and Mr. & Mrs. Eckstein of Indianola. Wyatt has a big brother named Hunter who I am sure is anxious to play with his little brother. Congratulations to everyone on the arrival of this new little bundle of joy!

Be careful whenever coming up to the intersections around town as we have so much snow piled up that it is hard to see for oncoming vehicles.
On March 14 we will turn our clocks ahead to Daylight Savings Time. St. Patrick’s Day is on March 17.
I would like to take this opportunity to send my most sincere sympathy to Mrs. Richard Truckenbrod and family in the death of their loved one Richard Truckenbrod. I had the opportunity of meeting him while I was serving as an EMT on the Truro Fire & Rescue under circumstances of either a rescue or a fire. Mr. Truckenbrod did a special thing for me and it meant a lot to me. I am now retired from the Truro rescue but on my last rescue call it was cold outside and the patient was down a large hill and in a ditch. When the patient was airlifted out and I was climbing up the hill carrying our heavy medical bag as our ambulance couldn’t be driven down where the patient was, I was becoming quite short of breath and wasn’t sure I was going to make it up that big hill when suddenly some Winterset Firemen came in a smaller truck and asked if I would care for a lift. That was Mr. Truckenbrod offering me the lift that I was so thankful to get and I have never forgotten it and it happened over a year ago. Firemen or rescue personnel care deeply for people and want to help them – even help fellow rescue people!! I have always been very appreciative of his thoughtfulness.
