New faces will lead two Osceola businesses

Two businesses in Osceola – Hy-Vee and Clarke County State Bank – are moving forward under a new leader.

Clarke County State Bank celebrates its 75th anniversary this year with the introduction of the new bank president Dave Selene.

Selene began his duties on President's Day, Feb. 15. Selene has worked in Iowa banks for nearly 30 years, most recently in Council Bluffs.

The Selene family has been active in the communities in which they have lived.

Marketing Director Diane Ogbourne will be leading the bank staff in introducing Selene to customers and community members over the next several weeks.

Ogbourne welcomes the public to stop by the bank for an introduction. The first formal introductory event will be Feb. 26 from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. at the office located on Main Street.

"We look forward to Dave's leadership," Senior Vice President Amy Lampe said.

Also joining the Clarke County State Bank staff is Alan Elefson, Senior Vice President of Lending. Elefson, from Lamoni, has been with the bank one month and brought 32 years of lending experience to his position.

A new store director has also been chosen for Osceola's Hy-Vee.

Brandon Williams transferred from a Council Bluffs store, where he formerly held the position of perishables manager to serve as the new director.

Williams has been employed with Hy-Vee for nearly 18 years, the majority of which were spent at Oak View Mall store in Omaha, where he signed on as a part-time courtesy clerk back in 1992.

"He is an innovative and talented member of the Hy-Vee family and will do well at his new position," said Paula Correy, Vice President in the western region.

While working for the company, he has taken over many leadership roles.

Williams was named General Merchandise Manager in 1998, which was followed by other roles that included Assistant Manager, then Manager, Store Operations in 2003 and later that year, Perishables Manager.

“I will miss all of the great people at Council Bluffs (store) and I want to thank them for helping to make this promotion possible," Williams said. "I look forward to meeting and working with everyone at the Osceola Hy-Vee and getting to know the people in the community.”

His selection to head up Osceola's Hy-Vee will be Williams’ first store director assignment.

Williams is married to Jennifer and the couple has two children: Benjamin, 8, and Chloe, 6.

Favorite activities for Williams are attending his children’s school activities and other family functions as well as playing golf and working out.

"We are very excited to have Brandon join and lead our Osceola team," said Correy. "He has done a great job helping to take Council Bluffs #1 to new levels. Brandon is a great young leader who will put a lot of energy and drive into his new responsibilities at Osceola."

Gov. Terry Branstad released a $25 million education reform package that calls for more rigorous testing of students, higher standards for the state's teaching corps and includes a $10 million statewide literacy initiative. How do you feel about the cost of this plan?
Right now, the state cannot afford to spend $25 million on education reform.
It's $25 million well spent.
I don't care.
