I-35 ousted at home

The Interstate 35 boys' basketball team may have hosted a Class 2A District first-round contest Monday night in Truro, but Colfax-Mingo played like the team that felt right at home.

The Roadrunners' season came to an end with a 62-42 loss to the Tigerhawks.

I-35 was in striking distance after the first quarter, staring at only a three-point deficit. But Colfax-Mingo went on a 12-2 run early in the second to push the lead to 13 and eventually led by as many as 16 in the first half.

The Roadrunners wrapped up the year with an 11-9 record.

I-35 closed out the regular season with a pair of victories last week.

Thursday night in Truro, I-35 handled Clarke in non-conference action, 60-38.

Mark Jackson led a balanced scoring attack with 18 points and he also grabbed 10 rebounds and had four blocks. Taylor Wiggins added 11 points, Zach Moore had 10 and Brody Brownlee added nine. Kyle Freeman grabbed six rebounds and Nate McKinney had three steals.

Two nights earlier, the Roadrunners finished 9-6 in the Pride of Iowa Conference with a 51-38 win at Martensdale-St. Marys.

Jackson had another big night with 15 points, 10 rebounds and four blocks. Nate McKinney added 10 points and three steals, while Freeman had eight points and six rebounds. Andrew McKinney and Wiggins had five points each.

Gov. Terry Branstad released a $25 million education reform package that calls for more rigorous testing of students, higher standards for the state's teaching corps and includes a $10 million statewide literacy initiative. How do you feel about the cost of this plan?
Right now, the state cannot afford to spend $25 million on education reform.
It's $25 million well spent.
I don't care.
