| LAMPE RECOGNIZED: Osceola Chamber-Mainstreet President Steve Weers presents Amy Lampe with the 2009 Community Service Award Jan. 26/ (Melissa Brownrigg) |
The crowd rose to their feet and erupted in applause as Amy Lampe took to the stage.
Lampe was named the recipient of the 2009 Community Service Award presented at Osceola Chamber-Mainstreet and Clarke County Development Corporation's annual dinner held Jan. 26.
"She spends countless hours organizing and creating projects that make things happen in Osceola," said Steve Weers, who presented the award.
After being honored for her service, Lampe remained humble.
"I look around the room and I see so many faces that also deserve this," she said. "[My family] has lived here a long time and we do believe that it's our goal, duty and responsibility to be a part of the community."
Lampe's family was beaming with pride as droves of people came to congratulate her with hugs and well wishes.
"It's very exciting," said husband Brad Lampe. "It's a neat example for our kids because they see that you have to give to the community."
The dinner, through the theme "Osceola, you bet we can," was centered on achieving great things in the community and how entities like CCDC, OCMS, all local businesses and volunteers play a part in keeping the town thriving. Over 200 people attended the dinner.
Lampe was just one local resident recognized for dedication and service to the community.
"It goes without saying that the events and programs that Osceola Chamber-Mainstreet has to offer would not be possible without the thousands of volunteer hours put in each year," Nish said. "We can count on our community to step up and contribute their time and efforts to make projects and new events a reality."
CCDC Executive Director Bill Trickey said the theme was fitting because this year marks the casino's 10 year anniversary and residents will be asked to vote on whether or not to approve the casino's referendum.
Trickey shared with the crowd how the casino has impacted the community financially. Trickey said the city and county received $2.8 million in taxes and revenue sharing last year. CCDC also received 1.5 percent from the casino for grant programs.
Weers ended the night with optimism for Osceola's future.
"We've achieved success and we will again," Weers said. "You can bet on it."
