The Murray boys’ basketball team takes a four-game win streak into the holiday break thanks to a big comeback victory Thursday night at home.

The Mustangs (4-2) trailed Lenox 30-18 at halftime and showed no signs of getting back into the game. But the second half was a completely different story.

Murray outscored the Tigers 21-13 in the third quarter to pull within 43-39 entering the fourth quarter. The Mustangs held Lenox to eight points over the final eight minutes and roared past them for the 57-51 non-conference victory.

“Lenox had our number in the first half and we just did not get any open looks. And when we did, we were just off tonight,” Murray Coach Darin Wookey said.

The Murray freshman tandem of Cody Scroggie and Austin Halls combined for just five points in the first half, but teamed up to score 28 of the team’s 39 second-half points.

Scroggie finished with a game-high 20 points. He also had two assists and three steals.

Halls added 13 points, eight rebounds and four steals. Remington Siefkas had six points and nine rebounds, while Landon Turner added six points and grabbed four boards. Hunter Decker had four points and four rebounds off the bench, while Scotty Hampton added five points and five rebounds off the bench. Eric Hamer had a team-high four assists.

The Mustangs improved to 3-0 in Bluegrass Conference play with a 78-38 win over Diagonal Dec. 15 at home.

Halls had 24 points, 10 rebounds, three assists and four steals, while Scroggie added 15 points and seven steals. Hampton had 11 points, while Turner, Hamer and Decker added four points each. Hamer also grabbed eight rebounds, nabbed three steals and dished out three assists.

Murray returns to action on Jan. 5 when the team travels to Diagonal for a non-conference contest.
