The Truro Fire & Rescue Association held their monthly meeting on Nov. 19. The candy left over from Halloween was donated to the Lions Club for when they give candy away when Santa visits. There is a real need for the department to have four more roasters for when the fire department holds their fundraisers. It was voted on and approved to purchase the roasters.
It was brought up that there needs to be a law or by-law so that the treasurer can pay a business for repairing the ambulance upon its completion. They have run into the problem of the city clerk not being able to write a check for repairing the ambulance so the rescue team could pick it up. They would have to wait until the next city council meeting. It was voted on and approved that any time the ambulance needs repaired and it is in between city council meetings that the Association Treasurer may write a check out and then turn in the bill with a copy of the check and invoice for reimbursement to the city.
For the last couple of Januarys, the fire & rescue department along with the association have a banquet at the Lyons Hall. It’s just a get together with families or couples to have a good time and eat. Each couple brings a covered dish. The next banquet will be held on Jan. 9.
Thanksgiving was celebrated in Des Moines in the home of Lloyd & Carol Reed. Those attending were their children and grandchildren including Kalina Maxwell, Richie & Krista Maxwell all of Truro and Megan Maxwell and Jared Gore of Grimes, Kenton, Mary, Taylor and Lizzy Reed of Grinnell.
A spaghetti supper fundraiser will be held on Feb. 7.
Elections of officers for the Association are as follows: President – Julie Morris, Vice President – Sarah Darst, Treasurer – Abbey Mease, Secretary – Mary Lou Parker.
The Fire & Rescue department held their elections also and the following are next year’s officers: Fire Chief – Jeremy Ransom, Rescue Captain – Joe Sciarrotta, 1st Lieutenant (Rescue) -Brady Foreman, Assistant Fire Chief – Jim Mease, Fire Captain – Terry Stills, Fire Lieutenant – Tim Wickett, Fire/Rescue Secretary – Julie Morris and 2nd Lieutenant (Rescue) – Chet Darst.
Chuck & Joan Nichols, former missionaries to Brazil who are now retired, visited and spoke in the morning service at the Calvary Baptist Church in St. Charles last Sunday. Following the service the church held a potluck and as usual the women of the church had quite a spread. It was like Thanksgiving all over again!
Kirby & Judie (Parker) Seibel had originally come for a short visit to see Judie’s brother Dean & family when their RV broke down and extended their visit a little over another week. Unfortunately the RV didn’t get fixed and they had to return to North Dakota in the small car they had been pulling behind the RV. It was filled to the top with some of their belongings that were in the RV. They returned home on Wednesday without a hitch this time and everyone is thankful for that – especially them!
The Truro Lions will be having a breakfast on Dec. 12 from 8-10 a.m. at the Lions Hall. This will be in conjunction with the Truro Betterment Committee’s Tour of Homes to be held from 10 a.m.-3 p.m.
Santa Claus will also make his annual appearance on Dec. 12 at 2 p.m.
The Truro Betterment Committee will be Christmas caroling on Dec. 13 from 5-8 p.m. and also will be judging the outside Christmas light decorations. Of course, all this depends on the weather conditions. If it has to be canceled, they will plan to do it on Dec. 20.
