Kirby & Judie (Parker) Seibel from Bismarck, N.D., visited in the home of Judie’s brother and family, Dean & Mary Lou Parker. They had been on a trip to the east coast and were on their way back home. While here they visited in the home of their niece, Nancy (Parker) Hagan and husband, Todd, in their new home. Kirby assisted Dean and Tim Porter as he is combining Dean’s corn.
While here Judie attended the Mother/Daughter Banquet that was held at the Calvary Baptist Church in St. Charles on Nov. 14. The theme of the banquet was “Precious Memories”. The meal was catered by Cheryl Foura and Lois Stanley and was very delicious. After the meal everyone went into the sanctuary of the Church and there each lady introduced herself and told something she remembered that was special about her mother. The prizes for the youngest person present was won by Madelyn Anderson who is the one year old daughter of Josh and Amy Anderson. The next prize was given to the person who had the most brothers and Michaela Helton won that prize for having three brothers. Michaela is the daughter of Pastor & Janna (McKinney) Helton. One prize was for the person who had traveled the farthest to get to this banquet and Judie Seibel from Bismarck, N.D. won that prize. Other prizes were given away to the oldest in attendance and to the person who had the most generations of family represented. That prize was won by Jeri Stephenson. The devotion was given by Melissa Mee which was heart wrenching and encouraging at the same time. She did an excellent job. Entertainment was provided by the Stephenson gals singing a couple of songs, Sharon Crider and her daughter, Michaela and a piano and violin performance by Karla (McKinney) Meis & daughter, Bethany. Barbara Flickinger and daughter, Rachel, did a reading together as did Barb Bitz and her daughter who they call Sam. It was very nice evening and two of my daughters who could attend, Nancy Hagan, Christy Brommel, and granddaughter, Lauren Hagan, and sister-in-law, Judie Seibel seemed to have had a good time.
The Truro United Christian Church held their annual fall supper and auction on Nov. 14. The turkey and all the trimmings stayed the same but this year smoked pork prepared by Brad Sweeney was added. Everyone really enjoyed themselves as they were visiting with old friends and met new ones. The auction is always fun and Bret Smith was the auctioneer and his two children added to the festivities. Special thank you to all who worked and donated food, and all the wonderful items that were brought in to be sold in the auction. A special thanks to all those who helped the Church with this annual fundraise and made it a success.
John & Joan Mease have just returned from a holiday trip to Branson, Mo. Their two sons, Michael and Mark and their wives, Ruth and Raedean, were also on the bus trip. It was a Christmas present to the boys and their wives. It was a nice trip especially when they could all be together and no one had to drive. Branson is well known for their Veteran’s Parade which they all attended on Nov. 11. John Mease is a Korean Veteran and we thank him for his service to our country.
The Truro Lions will be holding their Saturday breakfast on Nov. 21 from 7:30-9:30 a.m. at the Truro Lions Hall. The Lions appreciate your support.
St. Charles will be having their annual Thanksgiving Dinner on Nov. 26. Everyone is invited and the meal is a free will donation. It is held in the St. Charles Lions Hall.
Alice Gracey celebrated her 88th birthday on Nov. 17. Her daughter and husband, Diane (Gracey) & Galyn Bedwell of Norwalk, came and brought the cake and ice cream. Granddaughter, Amy (Bedwell) Tlach, Jenna and Abby from Prole came and spent the evening with Alice to help celebrate the occasion.
The Madison-Warren Ecumenical Association met on Nov. 18 at the Church of the Assumption in Churchville. Thirteen members were present and were served a delicious brunch by Robert & Lola Hill and Jane Cassady.
We welcome new member, Jane Cassady, who will be the representative for Churchville as Robert and Lola Hill are retiring. We thank them for their faithful attendance and support of this ecumenical ministry.
All were pleased with the attendance and support of the Harvest Service held Nov. 1 at Blair Chapel. Over $400 was collected and divided between Jesus Right Hand in New Virginia and the Multipurpose Center in Winterset.
Plans were made to have a breakfast on Saturday, Jan. 23, 2010, at the St. Charles Parish and a Soup Supper at the Peru UMC on Friday, Feb. 19, 2010. The MWEA will not meet in December. When they convene in January more plans will be made for some continued fund raisers for the MStM and I-35 School kid’s funds.
