Clarke resident seeks seat

Clarke County resident Joel Fry announced today that he will be running for the Iowa House in district 95.  The district is comprised of ten townships in Union County and all of Clarke and Decatur Counties.

“I am running for the Iowa House because our rural communities deserve an outspoken leader who will advocate for new growth and job creation,” said Fry.  “Iowa is on the verge of great things, and I will ensure we are poised to take advantage of business development opportunities.”

Fry comes from a long line of small business owners and is one himself, operating Team Restoration Ministries.  Heather Fry, Joel’s wife, also owns and operates To the Beat Dance Studio in rural Clarke County.  The Fry family is well-aware of the challenges that small business owners face every day.

“Small businesses are the backbone of Iowa communities,” said Fry.  “Instead of making it difficult for our small town businesses to operate, we must create a business-friendly environment that will support these businesses and entrepreneurs.”

Fry received his B.A. from Simpson College and his Master of Social Work and Aging Studies from the University of Iowa.  He has dedicated many years to being a social worker, working with patients and families in their end of life care.  He has worked for Hospice of Central Iowa as well as Weatherbee Resources where he currently serves as a consultant.

Fry and his wife Heather have three young children: Tanner, Mason and Reagan.

Gov. Terry Branstad released a $25 million education reform package that calls for more rigorous testing of students, higher standards for the state's teaching corps and includes a $10 million statewide literacy initiative. How do you feel about the cost of this plan?
Right now, the state cannot afford to spend $25 million on education reform.
It's $25 million well spent.
I don't care.
