We finally got a welcomed break from the rain and just in time for beggar’s night in Truro. It was cold but that didn’t stop the kids from coming out to get candy. Julie Morris, Tim Wickett, Jared Morris and I manned the fire station handing out candy to all the ghost and goblins. The kids had some really good jokes this year, too.
The farmers are finally getting a break from the wet weather and are in the fields bringing in their crops. The temperature has reached into the 60’s during the day and on Saturday they are predicting 70 degree weather. This must be the calm before the storm!!
Scott & Grace Onofrio, who are missionaries in Mexico, were special guest speakers at the Calvary Baptist Church in St. Charles this past Sunday. In the evening service Grace Onofrio’s parents, Tom & Beth Peace attended and they were long time missionaries in Brazil that the Church supported.
If you have been watching the news, you will remember hearing about a 29-year-old young man named Bradley Paullin who is missing in Des Moines. Bradley is the grandson of Kathleen Stuart and his parents are Bob & Loretta Paullin of Winterset. Our prayers are with his family and I hope by the time this article appears in the paper, he has been found and he is O.K.
The Truro City Council met Nov. 2 for their regular monthly meeting. There were several guests and guest speakers. Becky from SICOG came to the meeting and gave the council an update on what the new committee formed last week regarding the Iowa CDBG Funds for Housing Rehabilitation Project and what they had discussed in their meeting. One of the topics they talked about was the burning of leaves and trash in Truro. No garbage is to be burned within City limits. There have been complaints from people having problems with breathing when this is done. Mayor Arzani suggested that no plastic or petroleum products be burned. Sheriff Busch gave his report for the month. Please see in the minutes of the meeting written by the City Clerk as to what all went on in the meeting.
On Nov. 3 elections were held for new City Council members and Mayor. The results of the election are as follows: Mayor is Bryan Arzani and Council Members are Tammy Brown, Sarah Darst; Bobbie Finley, Karl Korte and Abbey Mease. Congratulations to everyone on being elected to the council.
Nov. 10 will be the next regular meeting of the Truro Betterment Committee. They meet at 7 p.m. in the Truro Public Library. Everyone is welcome to attend.
Please remember our veterans on Nov. 11. We appreciate all our veterans and all the men and women in the Armed Forces serving today all over the world. If you have an American flag, remember to fly it on your home in remembrance and appreciation.
The Truro Lions will be holding their Saturday breakfast into November. On the first and third Saturday in November the breakfast will be held from 7:30-9:30 a.m.
The annual Harvest Dinner fundraiser will be held at the Truro Christian Church on Nov. 14th, from 5-7 p.m. They will be serving turkey and pork loin with all the trimmings. An auction will follow the dinner. Carry out service will be provided.
St. Charles Parish Church will hold their bake sale & bazaar on Nov. 14 from 7-11 a.m. It will be held in the Parish Fellowship Hall. There will be a drawing for a homemade quilt. Tickets are available at Montross Pharmacy, Farmers & Merchants Bank in St. Charles and at the bazaar.
The Truro Betterment Committee’s annual Holiday Bazaar will be held on Nov. 21 from 9 a.m.-5p.m. They have over 20 vendors signed up for the event. It will be held in the Student Center at I-35 School. Volunteers are still needed to make cookies and candies for the bazaar so please contact Jennifer Collins or Michell Sciarrotta if you can help out this year. They are also looking for anyone interested in entering their home for a Christmas Tour of Homes. This would take place at the same time that the Lions will be having Santa Claus visit the Truro Lions Hall in December. If you are interested in entering, please give Jennifer a call at 515-975-2148 by Nov. 30.
St. Charles will be having their annual Thanksgiving Dinner on Nov. 26. Everyone is invited and the meal is a free will donation. It is held in the St. Charles Lions Club building.
Allie Chavez, nine year old daughter of Denise Brooks and David Chavez, played a classical piece of music on the piano on Nov. 7. The program was called the “Walk on the Red Carpet” and was held in the I-35 high school gym. Allie’s instructor is Pam Madison. Congratulations to Allie for her fine performance.
