Eldon & Sandy (Schamerhorn) Schultz, Dean & Mary Lou Parker and Lyle Miller of Altoona were Sunday dinner guests of Arlie & Pat McKinney.  The meal was delicious and everyone enjoyed the fellowship and especially enjoyed visiting with Lyle who had been living on the west coast these past few years.  Lyle’s father, Lloyd Miller, was a former pastor of Calvary Baptist Church of St. Charles.

Veronica Woods and her sister, Margaret Bryan, met long time friend, Joyce Patton, of Adel at the Des Moines Playhouse on Sunday where they enjoyed the musical “All Shook Up”.  After the play, the three of them had dinner at the Brickhouse American Grille.

On Monday night the Truro City Council held their regular monthly meeting.  They, of course, did the usual things of going over the bills, budget report, and the minutes of the last meeting but they also discussed the problem of semi trucks parking within city limits. The trucks have refrigeration units that run all night long annoying the families who live around where the truck or trucks are parked.  It is against City Ordinance to have a truck and or their refrigeration units running from 10 p.m. to 7 a.m.  They also discussed the problem with people burning garbage and other things that cause an odor that is quite offensive to the neighbors and causes some residents difficulty when they try to breathe. The council and the City Clerk are looking into laws governing this problem. They discussed closing the park for the season. The fire & rescue report was given.  It was good to see Sheriff Busch give the sheriff’s report. He hadn’t been seen for a while because of recent surgery. Other important things were discussed and that you will find in the City Clerks minutes of the meeting.

The City Council voted that the night for Trick or Treating will be on Friday, Oct. 30, from 6-8 p.m.  Please remember to put your porch light on so children will know that they can come to your home for treats.

Fran Hoffman, a fire person (as she puts it), has been in West Bridge Nursing home in Winterset for a couple of months.  She became ill last March and was in the hospital for several weeks. She then was sent to On With Life in Ankeny until her insurance wouldn’t pay of it any longer. Then she was transferred to West Bridge.  If anyone is doing business in Winterset, it would be appreciated if you would stop in and say “hello” to her or send her a card. I’m sure it would be a great encouragement to her and to her family.  This has been a long drawn out illness for her and her family and hopefully she will be back on her feet soon.  We miss you Frannie!!!
